Ambitious Growth Targets for Social Enterprises, Cooperatives and Employee-owned Businesses
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes what it sees as the ambitious and independent report, Developing Scotland's Economy: Increasing the Role of Inclusive and Democratic Business Models, which aims to dramatically grow the number of social enterprises, cooperatives, development trusts and employee-owned businesses across Scotland; recognises what it considers to be the vital role that these innovators play in driving economic prosperity, creating jobs, achieving net zero and building positive social and environmental impacts, including solutions to child poverty and neighbourhood regeneration; understands that these models can demonstrate more resilience, better productivity and higher employee satisfaction than other business models; considers that future potential growth in key areas like renewables, food and housing depends on the right investment and business support for these business models, and believes that, for genuine economic transformation and community wealth building to happen, inclusive democratic businesses must be a leading feature of all national and local government economic strategies.
