Launch of Confor's Engagement with Local People and Communities: Good Practice Guidance for Woodland Creation Proposals

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the publication by Confor of its Engagement with Local People and Communities: Good Practice Guidance for Woodland Creation Proposals, which has been developed collaboratively by community and forestry industry representatives across south Scotland; considers that this groundbreaking guide aims to improve engagement between local communities and woodland creators as Scotland works towards its target of expanding woodland coverage to 21% of land area by 2032; recognises the support provided by Scottish Forestry and the Scottish Land Commission in its development; notes the innovative partnership demonstrated at Glaisters Bridge Community Woodland Site, which represents the first instance of commercial forestry land being leased to a community through the Upper Urr Environment Trust; commends the collaborative approach taken in developing this guidance to ensure that community aspirations and concerns are properly considered in woodland creation projects; acknowledges what it regards as the vital role of woodland expansion in meeting Scotland's 2045 net zero commitments, and encourages all stakeholders involved in woodland creation projects to make use of what it sees as this valuable resource.
