The motion

That the Parliament welcomes Befriending Week 2024; understands that the event is held from 1 to 7 November each year, and is the national campaign celebrating and raising awareness of befriending and the positive impact that it has on individuals and communities; notes that, during this week, those in the befriending sector are invited to reflect on their achievements over the previous year, thank volunteers and staff, celebrate their service users, and share their message with stakeholders, government and the public; believes that Befriending Week is also an opportunity to look into the future by raising awareness of how befriending helps to tackle isolation and create community connections, in-person and at a distance; considers that Befriending Week was established in 2012 by the organisation known as Befriending Networks, a Scottish charity working in collaboration with its membership and strategic partners; acknowledges that there are many ways to get involved with Befriending Week, and that, each year, the charity releases a host of resources for people to use with their volunteers, service users and community; notes that it also facilitates events to help people plan their contribution to the campaign and throughout the week itself, including an annual conference, and commends everyone involved with befriending specifically to benefit the mental health and wellbeing of others.
