Oxfam Report, Carbon Inequality Kills

That the Parliament recognises what it considers to be the significant contribution of the wealthiest 1% of individuals to global carbon emissions, as highlighted in recent research on so-called carbon inequality by Oxfam; considers that excessive carbon emissions, particularly from luxury consumption, such as private jets, superyachts and high-polluting investments, deplete the world’s remaining "carbon budget", exacerbating climate change impacts for the poorest and most vulnerable communities; urges governments to advocate for policies that reduce emissions by targeting what it sees as the excessive consumption and investment patterns of the "super-rich"; calls on policymakers to implement progressive taxes on high-emission assets and industries, and promotes systemic economic changes to reduce inequality and support a sustainable future.
