Recognition of Dalry Community Garden Project as West of Scotland High Street Hero

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the Dalry Community Development Hub on its Dalry Community Garden project being named the High Street Hero for the West of Scotland; acknowledges the judges’ recognition of the project’s creation of new opportunities for people and growing of fruit and vegetables for residents; notes that the garden was launched in 2021 on land gifted by a local businessman to create a safe and supportive outdoor space following the COVID-19 pandemic; commends the garden for becoming a hub of the community where volunteers utilise their skills in crafts, artwork, planting, bonsai, cooking, bird watching, photography and learning; celebrates the various events held at the garden, including a Santa’s grotto, numeracy and literacy through games sessions, schools garden visits and a winter soup kitchen using produce grown there; congratulates the Dalry Community Development Hub on being named a runner-up in the Scotland Loves Local Awards’ Most Enterprising Community category for its wider work to improve life in Dalry, including initiatives such as the Bypass Art Group, the Skirt the Skeith road run, the Lynn Glen trail and the Balmore and Pennyland Bees, and wishes chair, Sheena Woodside, and everyone involved in the Dalry Community Development Hub continued success in their endeavours to support the wellbeing of the community.
