Road Safety Week 2024

The motion

That the Parliament acknowledges that 17 November marks the beginning of Road Safety Week 2024; understands that the annual initiative, originating in 1997, is organised by the charity, Brake, which aims to raise awareness of road safety issues; believes that thousands of organisations, schools and communities participate each year, using the week to amplify their voices in support of safer, healthier daily commutes; notes that the theme this year is "Every Victim Counts"; recognises that the week reminds people of the devastating impact of road crashes and celebrates those who support families affected by road deaths or serious injuries; understands that 17,000 people die every year on UK roads and a further 30,000 receive serious, life-changing injuries; commends the work of Brake, and other safety charities, on campaigning for the awareness of this important issue; further commends the effort of volunteers, emergency services and safety professionals in reducing the casualties and providing care and compassion for those affected by road incidents, and wishes everyone involved with Road Safety Week all the best for this year and future campaigns.
