Borders Woman, Taylor Winyard, Becomes First Scot to Row the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, and in Record Time

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the Borders woman, Taylor Winyard, on becoming the first Scot to row the Pacific and Atlantic oceans, both in new world-record times; understands that Taylor was part of the all-female trio, alongside Charlotte Irving from Ireland and Jessica Goddard from England, to complete the 2,800-mile row from California to Hawaii in just 38 days, which was two days shorter than the previous women's record and 25 hours quicker than the male record; notes that the team faced gruelling storms and strong currents, and capsized twice, yet still managed to complete the route in record time in their nine-metre rowing boat, and pays particular credit to Taylor, whose day job is running the Stobo Health Spa in Peeblesshire, on her success becoming the first Scot to achieve this remarkable triumph of human strength and endurance.
