The motion

That the Parliament notes the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence, commencing with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on 25 November 2024 and ending on Human Rights Day on 10 December 2024; notes that this is an annual campaign to call for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls, including sexual, physical and mental harm; understands that, in Scotland, 14,602 sexual crimes and 61,934 domestic abuse instances, 81% with a female victim, were recorded by Police Scotland in 2022-2023; further understands that, globally, every 11 minutes a woman or girl dies at the hands of an intimate partner or family member; thanks the organisations marking the 16 Days of Activism and those working to end gender-based violence in Scotland and around the world, and welcomes the events planned in Scotland to remember victims and raise awareness of this issue, including the ecumenical service at St Matthew's Church in Perth on 25 November 2024, which is organised by Scottish church denominations and Christian Aid.
