Wishaw Hospital Radio Station to Cease Broadcasting
The motion
That the Parliament notes the announcement that Wishaw Hospital Radio Station, Radio Law, will cease broadcasting after nearly six decades of service to the local community; believes that Radio Law, which was founded in 1967 at the former Law Hospital, has been a vital source of entertainment, companionship and information for patients, staff, and the wider community; considers that, over the years, the station has played a pivotal role in enhancing the hospital experience by offering a variety of programmes, including music, request shows and live broadcasts, all with a focus on improving the wellbeing of patients and connecting them to the world beyond the hospital walls; celebrates the station’s humble beginnings, starting with a weekly, one-hour request programme, which was broadcast from a tape recorder plugged into the hospital radio system; commends the dedication of the volunteers who have supported Radio Law over the years; acknowledges that the station’s final broadcast will be a Christmas extravaganza, to be held on the afternoon of 8 December 2024, marking the end of an era; believes that this will be a fitting tribute to the station’s enduring legacy of service and community spirit; extends its heartfelt thanks to all those involved with Radio Law for their many years of service, and expresses its best wishes to the volunteers and staff as they move forward into the future.
