Glasgow Prestwick Airport Marks Five Successive Years of Profit
The motion
That the Parliament celebrates Glasgow Prestwick Airport marking its fifth successive year of profit; understands that the Ayrshire airport made £3.2 million in profit in the financial year 2023-24; welcomes the Scottish Government’s decision to purchase the business in 2013 to secure the site’s long-term future; recognises that, as well as providing commercial passenger flights, the airport also provides cargo, fuel, and military services; applauds the news that a strategic partnership is in development with a US airport which, it understands, will establish a new direct cargo route; welcomes reports that Ryanair has recently invested in a new £5 million engineering training academy, creating 500 highly skilled jobs, and believes that the success of the airport is essential for the local and national economies and secures many jobs.
