Former Bo’ness Landfill Site Secures the 2024 Brownfield Award for Best Biodiversity Enhancement

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Falkirk Council on the work that it has undertaken on the former Kinneil Kerse landfill site, which won the 2024 Brownfield Award for enhancing biodiversity in October; recognises that the Kinneil Kerse site was used as landfill from the 1920s until 2000, and understands that it posed various environmental risks upon its closure, including pollution and harm to nearby water sources; celebrates that, since the restoration began, £2.6 million has been invested into the area, which has been transformed from a potential hazard to a beautiful greenspace that offsets 4.4 tonnes of carbon each year; notes that collaboration was required to bring this project to fruition, and that partners included WSP Consultants, SEPA, and the British Trust for Ornithology; congratulates Falkirk Council and partners on the award for Best Biodiversity Enhancement, and wishes all those involved in the project the best for the future.
