Scottish Trades Union Congress Report on the Gender Pay Gap

Lodged by Maggie Chapman (Scottish Green Party) Standard Motion 22 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament notes the findings of the Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) report on the gender pay gap, which states that the mean gender pay gap for all workers in Scotland, full time and part time, increased from 6.4% in 2023 to 8.3% in 2024; considers that the gender pay gap has been falling for decades and that this appears to be a significant reversal; supports the STUC’s call for greater investment in childcare, as well as action to address occupational segregation, inflexible working practices, pay discrimination, and societal stereotypes, and calls on all levels of government and all employers to boost pay in women-dominated industries, where, it understands, three quarters of the workforce are women.
