Ryan Thompson, "John Saves the World from Covid-19"
The motion
That the Parliament commends 13-year-old Ryan Thompson, a pupil at St Aidan’s High School, Wishaw, for his remarkable achievement in writing the novel, John Saves the World from Covid-19; understands that Ryan began writing his novel at just nine years old during the national COVID-19 pandemic lockdown; further understands that the novel, which is inspired by Ryan’s great-grandfather, explores the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on individuals, particularly the mental and physical toll that it took on older and vulnerable people; considers that Ryan’s thoughtful and creative work offers an insightful perspective on the challenges faced during the pandemic, and that it highlights the resilience of individuals and families during such difficult times, and believes that his work serves as an inspiration to young people across Scotland and shows that creativity and perseverance can make a meaningful contribution to understanding and coping with adversity.
