25 Years of IKEA Edinburgh

The motion

That the Parliament recognises 25 years of IKEA Edinburgh; understands that, in 1999, IKEA opened its first store in Edinburgh before expanding to open sites in Glasgow and Aberdeen; notes that, presently, 33 original co-workers still remain part of the IKEA Edinburgh store team to this day; further notes that, since 2016, IKEA has proudly been a member of the Living Wage Foundation and is the largest accredited retailer; recognises what it sees as the vital role that co-workers and sustainable working practices play in helping IKEA to move towards its goal of being a fully circular business; understands that IKEA stores and co-workers engage daily with customers to help them recycle, re-use and prolong the life of specific products; welcomes the contribution that IKEA makes to the Scottish economy, both locally and nationally, and wishes the business well for the future.
