Edinburgh University South Asian Dance Society Performs in Parliament
The motion
That the Parliament recognises what it sees as the important work of Edinburgh Junoon Dance Society; understands that it was founded in 2019 and is the University of Edinburgh’s first South Asian dance group, specialising in over 20 dance styles and performing songs in multiple languages; recognises that it has performed at events in the Parliament and both the 2024 Scottish Curry Awards and Diwali, putting on what it believes to have been vibrant and impressive performances; notes its recent showcase at the Pleasance Theatre in Edinburgh, which was attended by 130 people and completed in collaboration with other of the university's societies, including the K-Pop Dance Group, the Chinese Society and the Bhangra Society, demonstrating the ability of arts and culture to build bridges across communities; considers that dance and performance can provide a space for diverse groups to remain connected to their heritage, and hopes for the continued success of Edinburgh Junoon Dance Society.
