The motion

That the Parliament recognises the achievements of musicians from the Midlothian South, Tweeddale and Lauderdale constituency at the Scottish Youth Brass Band Championships on 24 November 2024; notes that Gold awards were given to Maroon Brass, from Galashiels, which came second in the novice section, Galashiels Youth Band, which was placed top four in the intermediate section, with Silver awards also going to Newtongrange Junior Band in the intermediate section and Scottish Borders Youth Band in the development section, as well as St David’s and Penicuik Joint Youth performing as a non-competitive band in the novice section; recognises that Midlothian Percussion Training and Midlothian Percussion Ensemble had also enjoyed success at the Championships, with both taking Gold awards in percussion contest held on 23 November; understands that the Championships featured 28 bands, supported by Creative Scotland, and marked the culmination of the Scottish Festival of Brass, giving aspiring and experienced musicians the chance to perform on stage at Perth Concert Hall; believes that such events help to encourage young people particularly to pursue playing an instrument, and congratulates all involved on a fantastic show of local talent.
