Glasgow Receives Top UNESCO Award for Lifelong Learning

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the city of Glasgow on becoming the first city in Scotland to receive a prestigious international accolade for lifelong learning; notes that the UNESCO Learning City Award was given at a ceremony in Saudi Arabia; understands that Glasgow launched itself as a learning city in 1999, and that the concept has been the driving force for the city’s development in lifelong learning; further understands that Scott MacGregor, vice principal of the University of Strathclyde and chairperson of the Glasgow Economic Leadership (GEL) higher and further education work stream, accepted the award on behalf of the city, and considers that the UNESCO Learning City Award is testament to the lifelong learning at the heart of education and learning in Glasgow’s schools and colleges, and that it provides the city with a platform to reinforce its commitment to lifelong learning and education and to share learnings with other UNESCO Learning Cities.
