Luke Clayton Achieves Gold at WorldSkills UK National Competition

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Luke Clayton, who attends New College Lanarkshire, on achieving gold at the WorldSkills UK National Competition 2024 in the Mechanical Engineering: Computer-Aided Design (CAD) competition; commends the dedication and talent of Luke and all the participants at the event, which was held in Greater Manchester, and brought together apprentices and students competing across over 40 skills to be named the "best in the UK", representing industries including construction and infrastructure, digital business and creative, engineering and technology, and health, hospitality and lifestyle; recognises that the WorldSkills UK national finals are the culmination of rigorous training and preparation, and acknowledges them as an opportunity to showcase attributes that are highly valued by employers, such as practical skills, resilience under pressure, critical thinking, and communication skills; notes that finalists from this year's national finals may be invited to join WorldSkills UK’s international training and development programme, with the opportunity to represent the UK at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026; congratulates New College Lanarkshire on excelling across multiple categories and achieving the top position in the league table; applauds the New College Lanarkshire staff for their commitment to fostering student growth, confidence, and success; celebrates the exceptional skills demonstrated by Luke and all finalists, and believes that these events highlight the promise of a highly skilled and dynamic future workforce; considers that WorldSkills UK provides a vital platform for young people to develop the expertise and confidence to seize opportunities, and wishes Luke and all those involved the very best in their future endeavours.
