Dirleton Solar Walk Project
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the recent completion of the Dirleton Solar Walk project in East Lothian; understands that the initiative, developed in partnership between Heriot-Watt University and Dirleton Primary School, is a 1:3.6 billion scale model of the Solar System, where every step that visitors take represents millions of kilometres in space and enables people to experience the wonders of the Solar System through a unique, walkable and wheelable scale model; further understands that the walk incorporates learning and discovery about the planets and the night sky that is suitable for all ages; believes that the project is an excellent way of engaging people, especially children, in learning about and understanding the Solar System’s vast distances and sizes, including facts and information about each planet along the way; commends those involved in the design and implementation of the project from Heriot-Watt University, the University of Edinburgh, Dirleton Primary School, the Glasgow School of Art, and the Astronomical Society of Edinburgh; further commends Dirleton Community Association, Gullane Area Community Council and Archerfield Walled Garden for the support that they have given to the initiative, and urges anyone who would like to find out more about the project to visit the dirleton.solar website.
