15,000 Hectares of New Trees Planted in Scotland in 2024

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the Scottish Government’s figures that show that it has planted over 15,000 hectares of new trees in 2024, accounting for almost three quarters of the UK’s mainland tree planting; further welcomes the commitment to plant a further 36 million trees by 2030; believes that increasing tree planting can help play a vital role in tackling the climate emergency; thanks all those involved in conserving and enhancing Scotland’s natural environment such as NatureScot, Scottish Forestry and Woodland Trust Scotland; notes the Scottish Government’s ongoing project to develop a new national registry for ancient woodlands, which, it believes, will be an important element of the Scottish Biodiversity Strategy and Delivery Plan, and urges the Scottish Government to provide an update on the publication and delivery of both.
