Business Concern Highlighted in Quarterly Economic Survey

The motion

That the Parliament notes with concern figures released from the latest Quarterly Economic Survey by the Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce (AGCC), which indicate that only 37% of the businesses in the north east that responded anticipate an increase in turnover in the upcoming months; further notes that this figure is the lowest the survey has reported since 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic; understands that 78% of respondents to the survey identified changes to taxation as a hurdle to growth, an increase of 30% from six months ago, with 86% of respondents citing concerns over the cost of hiring staff; believes that these figures highlight the lack of confidence that businesses in the north east have in the UK Labour administration, and the policies in its first Budget, particularly those businesses involved in the energy sector, and hopes that these figures make the UK Government rethink its approach, including in relation to prioritising a better trading deal between the UK and the EU.
