Stirling Bike Charity Recyke-a-bike Celebrates 20 Years

The motion

That the Parliament recognises the 20 years of service provided by Stirling bike charity, Recyke-a-bike, offering people living in the local area the opportunity to purchase recycled and re-purposed bikes at lower prices; understands that Recyke-a-bike, formerly known as Fallin Community Enterprises, was first set up in 2005 and has now grown to provide several key projects, including visiting schools across Stirling and Clackmannanshire to deliver "bikeability" sessions and also offering key bike mechanic and retail training, and volunteering opportunities; notes that the charity’s recycling ethos includes offering e-bikes for hire and for free for up to 25 days to improve active travel and cut down on people buying bikes and throwing them away; acknowledges that the charity was set up in the mining town of Falllin to help to address unemployment and social deprivation issues, with a focus on accessibility and inclusivity, and is delivering training through the "inspire-a’ride" skills programme; is very grateful that Recyke-a-bike provided local people with 250 bikes in 2024, with 27 staff members working hard to deliver the charity’s various initiatives, including through the challenging period of the COVID-19 pandemic, and extends its very best wishes to the staff and the volunteers of Recyke-a-bike for the future.
