Scottish Opera Primary Schools Tour Coming to Glasgow
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Scottish Opera on its primary schools tour, which aims to re-introduce pupils to the works of Robert Burns; understands that the much-loved tour, which started on 3 February 2025, will visit more than 120 schools across Scotland, including those in Glasgow; notes that the show, The Tale o' Tam o' Shanter, is based on Burns' poem, Tam o' Shanter and is aimed at children in P5, 6, and 7; further notes that the show follows farmer, Tam o' Shanter, as he makes his way home from market day with his horse, Meg; understands that schools are provided with high-quality, online teaching resources in advance, including a teachers' support pack, to introduce the songs from The Tale o' Tam o' Shanter to pupils; acknowledges that a team of Scottish Opera performers and arts education specialists then spend a day rehearsing and preparing the pupils for a 30-minute choreographed and fully-costumed performance, and understands that the aim of Scottish Opera's outreach and education programme is to make learning both enjoyable and challenging, giving pupils the opportunity to engage their creative and expressive capacities, while introducing them to the world of opera.
