Commends Resilience of Stirling Communities Following Storm Éowyn

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates and commends the people of Stirling for their resilience, determination and community spirit in the aftermath of Storm Éowyn, which struck Stirling and wider Scotland on 24 January 2025; recognises the extraordinary efforts of emergency responders, Stirling Council teams, utility providers, local businesses, charities, and volunteers who worked tirelessly throughout the weekend and beyond to restore power, clear debris, and assist those affected by the storm; acknowledges the significant damage caused by winds reaching nearly 100mph, which led to power outages affecting tens of thousands of homes, structural damage to buildings, and widespread travel disruptions; recognises what it sees as the vital role played by local farmers in clearing dangerous debris from roads, and the provision of welfare vans and essential support by utility companies to those in need; expresses particular concern for the damage sustained to primary schools and nurseries, and supports the continued efforts to ensure the safety of pupils and staff, and praises the unwavering spirit of the Stirling community, which came together in a time of crisis to support one another.
