WayWORD Festival Aberdeen Funding Success

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the WayWORD festival on it being awarded £150,000 from Creative Scotland to allow it to continue its work at the University of Aberdeen until 2027; notes that it is a literary cross-arts festival celebrating unconventional forms of expression and is completely free for attendees; celebrates the impact it has made since 2020; notes that it supports young people in the north east in planning and hosting events, such as workshops, author talks, performances and exhibitions, and in helping them to develop skills in event management, marketing and teamwork, as well as building general confidence; further notes that, in autumn 2024, the festival reached an audience of 3,000; believes that the funding will assist in providing more support and opportunities for young people to be involved, through the development of new committees in communities across Aberdeen, and wishes the festival every success in its continuing activities.
