Speak with One Voice to Protect Scotland’s National Refinery Capacity at Grangemouth

That the Parliament considers that Scotland is one of the world’s top 25 oil-producing nations, yet faces the imminent loss of its only national refinery capacity at Grangemouth; condemns the reported decision by INEOS to proceed with refinery closure plans while reportedly receiving £600 million in UK Government support for a project in Antwerp, Belgium, raising, it believes, serious concerns about the UK Government’s commitment to Scotland’s energy security and industrial future; believes that this will have a devastating impact on jobs, energy security, supply chain resilience, and Scotland’s capacity to transition responsibly within the energy sector; calls on the UK Government to urgently intervene and prevent the closure, ensuring that Scotland retains its strategic refining capabilities rather than being left dependent on imports, and urges the Scottish Government to work with others in order to speak with one voice from this Parliament and to demand answers as to why the UK Government is reportedly funding energy infrastructure abroad while failing to protect workers, skills and industries in Scotland.
