Commending the Efforts of the OPEN Project
The motion
That the Parliament commends the efforts of all those involved in the OPEN project in Shetland; appreciates that OPEN began as a youth project within Voluntary Action Shetland, but has since established itself as the first independent youth-led charity in Shetland, with young people sitting on its board; understands that it originally focused on creating a drop-in café for young Shetlanders to develop connections and tackle isolation, and that the organisation has since developed into one that offers peer mentoring, education and research opportunities, as well as volunteer roles and specialised staff training; celebrates the news that the OPEN project has recently been awarded £150,000 from the British Science Association’s Ideas Fund, in recognition of its efforts to improve the mental wellbeing of the community and become established as a leader in the youth peer research community, and wishes all of the team at the OPEN project the very best for the future.
