Cummings Park Community Flat Marks Over 10 Years of Intergenerational Working

That the Parliament congratulates everyone involved at Cummings Park Community Flat, in Aberdeen Donside, which has marked more than 10 years of intergenerational working in the community by receiving the Ann Crombie Intergenerational Award; understands that intergenerational working in the community first began when the Community Flat undertook work with residents of Granitehill House and young people from Bramble Brae Primary School; notes that the residents of Granitehill House would tell pupils stories of times gone by, while the pupils encouraged the residents to play and participate with modern games, hobbies and interests, all while working together to help break down the gap between the generations as well as putting fears and misunderstandings to rest; understands that, since the first intergenerational event, Cummings Park Community Flat has since joined with Acevoices and pupils from Heathryburn Primary School as well as visiting residents at Kingswood Court and enjoying trips to Thainstone House, Aberdeen beach and the "Fittie" area of the city, as well as undertaking litter picking sessions with children from Flexible Childcare Services Scotland’s Cummings Park Nursery; recognises the importance of intergenerational working to help build confidence, challenge assumptions and prejudices and also tackle social isolation and loneliness in both groups; commends all staff and volunteers at Cummings Park Community Flat for their continued work in the community, and wishes everyone the best for the future.
