Recognising Broxburn Academy Students for Winning Schools’ Mace Debating Competition
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Luke Robertson and Emma Chow of Broxburn Academy for being declared winners at the Young Speakers Scotland Schools’ Mace Debating Competition, beating eight other teams in the grand final; understands that the Young Speakers Scotland final was held on 22 February 2025 at the Faculty of Advocates in Edinburgh, featuring teams from across Scotland participating in a day of debates; recognises that teams qualified for the competition after taking part in a series of preliminary rounds, with 39 schools taking part; acknowledges that Young Speakers Scotland, which organised the event, delivers free workshops to state schools to build confidence through public speaking; congratulates Luke and Emma once more for their incredible achievement, and hopes that they continue to develop their skills in research and debate.
