The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the news that the University of Aberdeen will co-lead a project designed to cut the carbon footprint of clinical trials; notes that the project, titled "Greener Trials", will digitise guidance for assessing the carbon footprint of publicly funded trials, enabling scientists to gather data more rapidly to identify areas of concern, research gaps and issues with current decarbonising systems, as well as shared mitigation strategies, and promote behavioural change; understands that the project will result in a website hosting an open access, free, online carbon calculator, which will work alongside calculators in development in the pharmaceutical sector, as well as active communities of practice, evidence-based mitigation strategies and priorities for research; believes that this research will be vital in helping to reduce the carbon footprint of clinical trials, estimated to be at 37 million tonnes of CO2e overall per year in previous research, and wishes the University of Aberdeen team, led by Professor Katie Gillies and Dr Beatriz Goulao, all the very best in its endeavours.
