University of Aberdeen, Cutting the NHS Carbon Footprint

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the news that the University of Aberdeen has been named as a core organisation in a new hub tasked with developing new ways to help the NHS dramatically cut its carbon footprint; notes that the hub, which is officially titled "UK Hub for One Health Systems: Creating Sustainable Health and Social Care Pathways" is being led by the University of Exeter, and is one of seven receiving a total of £42 million in funding from UK Research and Innovation and the National Institute for Health and Care Research, with each hub facing a different net zero challenge; understands that the hub will look at a patient's journey through the NHS and social care to identify opportunities to reduce carbon emissions, including reductions in travel, eliminating unnecessary waste and helping suppliers redesign processes to be more carbon neutral; believes that this work will be vital in helping the NHS meet its legal obligations to become net zero by 2045, and wishes the University of Aberdeen team, led by Dr Luis Loria-Rebolledo, all the very best in its endeavours.
