The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Jakob Kaye and Ben Hobman on their newly established community service partnership, ELVES CIC in Dumfries; notes that they aim to teach gardening skills and mentor people towards paid employment opportunities and also to address social isolation; understands that the service will offer free home garden maintenance to people that live alone with disabilities but also educate young people on the skills and knowledge to become a competent gardener; further understands that ELVES CIC was set up from investment funding and has pulled together a consortium of services to tackle social care issues for vulnerable adults living at home, and that these services include “Sunshine Service” established by Alexandra Drysdale, who will offer befriending phone calls and “MiHomeGuard”, established by Jamie Grant, which offers a highly affordable monitoring system in people’s homes to provide security and reassurance; believes that in partnership with Dumfries and Galloway Mental Health Association, this community service will address isolation, health and wellbeing benefits, and wishes Jakob and Ben all the best in their new venture.
