The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Stirling-based sisters, Kirsty Macgowan and Shirley Paterson, for raising over £20,000 for the Stroke Association over 15 years of consistent fundraising activities; understands that Kirsty and Shirley were motivated to raise funds following the untimely passing of their mother, Molly Macgowan, from a stroke in 2008; notes that fundraising activities have included cycling, running, triathlon courses and organising social activities such as discos, ceilidhs and a ladies pamper night; recognises reports that stroke is Scotland’s fourth biggest killer and is the leading cause of adult disability, with almost 600 people having a stroke in the NHS Forth Valley area in 2023 alone; commends the sisters for breaking the £20,000 threshold in summer 2024; passes on its sympathies in memory of Molly, and its best wishes for future fundraising activities, and joins the sisters in their calls to make improvements in Scotland’s stroke services a priority.
