Remembering Keith Hammond
The motion
That the Parliament marks the sad death of Keith Hammond, a leading figure in academic life, who it believes was known widely for his defence of human rights and justice for the Palestinian people; recognises that Hammond was a senior lecturer at the University of Glasgow, known and respected for his work in the fields of philosophy, politics and education; considers that his commitment to the defence of the Palestinian cause went beyond academic interest, and led him to visit Gaza on many occasions and give lectures on the prospect of cooperation and exchange of experiences between Palestinian and British universities; highlights what it sees as his well-known and highly respected published written work on Palestinian universities and the Israeli occupation, and acknowledges what it regards as the dedication of his advocacy throughout his academic career as he sought to highlight injustices and call for solidarity, using his influence and expertise to contribute to discourse and support Palestinian human rights.
