Celebrating Scotland’s First Head of AI in Medicine at the University of Aberdeen

That the Parliament commends the University of Aberdeen on appointing Professor Gerald Lip as Scotland's first Head of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Clinical Practice; acknowledges what it sees as this pioneering role's significance in enhancing medical education and healthcare delivery across Scotland; recognises what it sees as Professor Lip's distinguished contributions, including leading the landmark GEMINI project, which demonstrated the effectiveness of AI in significantly improving cancer detection rates; commends the University of Aberdeen for its continued leadership and innovation in medicine, reflected in its ranking as first in the UK for medicine by The Guardian University Guide for 2024 and 2025; believes that integrating AI training into medical education will equip clinicians with essential skills for modern healthcare, improve patient outcomes, and foster further advancements in medical research, and wishes Professor Lip and the University of Aberdeen every success in this groundbreaking initiative.
