University Health and Social Care North Lanarkshire Marks Successful First Year of its Frailty Strategy 2024-29

That the Parliament commends University Health and Social Care North Lanarkshire (UHSCNL) on celebrating the first year of its Frailty Strategy for 2024-29, which it believes has been successful; recognises the strategy’s focus on empowering older people across North Lanarkshire to preserve independence, health and the ability to live safely and comfortably in their own homes for longer; believes that frailty is an age-related condition, affecting approximately 12% of over-65s and over half of those aged 85 or over, as the body gradually loses its reserves and has heightened vulnerability to health challenges; welcomes the range of innovative initiatives, such as dedicated frailty units in Lanarkshire’s hospitals, prioritising timely, specialist care, the Carers Academy, which is run in partnership with Alzheimer Scotland and offers what it sees as invaluable guidance to dementia carers and families, the Motherwell Independent Living project, which has an emphasis on reablement and restoring confidence after illness, and the Active Wards programme, which counters physical and mental decline among hospitalised patients through personalised activities; highlights the strategy’s commitment to early detection via technology and collaboration and fostering proactive support; expresses its profound gratitude to all staff whose efforts underpin what it sees as this transformative work, to enrich the lives of older residents across North Lanarkshire, including those in Uddingston and Bellshill, with dignity, respect and independence, and wishes UHSCNL every success with its aim to build on what it sees as these successes through community engagement, enhancing access to frailty resources and delivering sustainable, person-centred care.
