Older People’s Economic Wellbeing Index: Scotland 2024-25

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the publication of the report, Older People’s Economic Wellbeing Index: Scotland 2024-25, by Independent Age; understands that this first edition of an annual series of nationally representative polling of people aged 66 and over provides a useful insight into the financial wellbeing and lives of older people in Scotland and the scale of income, costs and housing pressures many face; recognises that the Index includes an insight into the experiences of pensioners who are more likely to live in poverty, including one-person households, women, renters, people with caring responsibilities, those who have a disability or long-term health condition and people living in areas of high deprivation, and the intersectionality that connects these, and notes the call from Independent Age for all political parties to work to address pensioner poverty in Scotland as an urgent priority in the context of ongoing demographic changes.
