Eid al-Fitr 2025

The motion

That the Parliament notes warmly the celebration of Eid al-Fitr, which takes place on 30 or 31 March 2025, depending on the sighting of the moon; understands that Eid al-Fitr comes at the end of the Muslim month of Ramadan, a month of prayer and reflection where Muslims worldwide fast during the hours of daylight before breaking the fast in what is known as Iftar; recognises the renewed focus on charity and giving throughout the month of Ramadan with acts of charity, known as Zakat; understands that Eid al-Fitr is celebrated with friends, family and the whole community, involving the sharing of gifts, food and prayer; further understands that Eid al-Fitr emphasises the value of being patient and steadfast in life; expresses its hope that Muslims worldwide are able to celebrate Eid al-Fitr in peace and security, and wishes the Muslim Community in Scotland and around the world, Eid Mubarak.
