Rosco McClelland Wins Sir Billy Connolly Spirit of Glasgow Award

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Rosco McClelland on being named the winner of the 2025 Sir Billy Connolly Spirit of Glasgow Award at the Glasgow International Comedy Festival’s Comedy Gala; acknowledges that this prestigious award celebrates the individual who most personifies the Spirit of Glasgow, embodying the city’s unique warmth, resilience, and renowned sense of humour; notes that Rosco McClelland was selected from an outstanding shortlist of nominees, including Craig Hill, Kim Blythe, Marjolein Robertson, Paul Black, Scott Agnew, and Viv Gee; recognises what it sees as Rosco’s remarkable contribution to Scottish comedy over the past decade, entertaining audiences across the country and beyond with his sharp observational humour and comedic storytelling; notes the special video message from Sir Billy Connolly, affectionately acknowledging Rosco’s comedic talent; commends the Glasgow International Comedy Festival for its continued dedication to celebrating Scotland’s vibrant comedy scene; congratulates all those nominated and recognised at this year’s festival, including Viv Gee who received a special one-off award from the Lord Provost of Glasgow as part of the city’s 850th anniversary celebrations, and wishes Rosco McClelland continued success in his career.
