Teenage and Young Adult Cancer Awareness Month

The motion

That the Parliament recognises, during Teenage and Young Adult Cancer Awareness month, the unique needs and experiences of teenagers and young adults diagnosed with cancer; believes that delays in diagnosis can have a significant impact on their physical and mental health, and that access to specialist psychological support is essential; recognises the challenges that young people face in navigating relationships, work and education while undergoing treatment, and the additional impact that this can have on their mental health; considers that barriers to accessing clinical trials can leave young people unable to benefit from innovative and often life-changing treatments; recognises that around 200 teenagers and young adults are diagnosed with cancer every year in Scotland, with each requiring specialised care to support them through treatment and beyond, and calls on the Scottish Government to ensure that diagnosing and treating cancer in this age group remains a priority, to ensure that teenagers and young adults with cancer are fully represented in healthcare planning and support services.
