Congratulating Loch Lomond Angling Improvement Association on its 125th Anniversary
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Loch Lomond Angling Improvement Association on its 125th Anniversary of being at the forefront of the conservation, protection and management of salmon and fresh water fishing in the Loch Lomond catchment area; understands that most of this work has been done by volunteers, the locally employed water bailiffs and local retailers; acknowledges that the association was established in 1900, when the 5th Duke of Montrose granted it rights to enjoy fishing in the River Endrick and east side of Loch Lomond; understands that both national and international anglers come to the area to fish the waters, with many famous faces, such as the very first editor of Trout and Salmon Magazine, Ian Wood, comedian, Billy Connolly and well known actor, Paul Young, all enjoying spending time fishing the loch and rivers; believes that the largest salmon recorded weighed in at a huge 44lb and was caught by Mr Edward Cochrane from Paisley in 1930, and looks forward to the continuing success of the association in future years.
