Congratulating Govan Music Festival on a Successful Fourth Edition

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the organisers of the Govan Music Festival on the success of its fourth edition, which took place from 26 to 29 March 2025; recognises what it sees as the festival's remarkable contribution to Glasgow's cultural landscape and its role in celebrating the city’s diverse musical heritage; acknowledges the participation of around 300 musicians and performers who represented a wide range of genres, including indie, world music, classical, flamenco and hip-hop; understands that the festival brought together people from the local community and beyond, creating a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere in Govan; notes that the Govan Music Festival has concluded in Glasgow after four joyful days of music and community participation, showcasing themes of hope, renewal and connection across its programme; further notes the festival's commitment to accessibility by offering the majority of performances at affordable prices between £1 and £5, as well as initiatives such as Freed Up, a sober event for the recovery community, which provided a safe and welcoming space for all attendees; commends the festival’s efforts to engage young people through events like the Govan Schools Concert, which showcased the talents of local pupils, and celebrates the headline performances by local artists; recognises what it regards as the positive impact of the newly opened Govan-Partick Bridge in enhancing access to the festival and contributing to Govan's growth as a dynamic cultural hub; commends the work of The Glasgow Barons, Glasgow's regeneration orchestra and the festival's artistic director, Paul MacAlindin, for their dedication to fostering creativity and community spirit, and wishes the Govan Music Festival continued success in future years.
