Hillhead Primary School Defends its Title in National Poetry Competition

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Hillhead Primary School, Glasgow, on being crowned the 2023 Slam Masters and individual winners at the Scottish Youth Poetry Slam; acknowledges its return to the competition in 2025 to defend the title; celebrates the school's commitment to nurturing young talent in poetry and performance, fostering creativity and enhancing literacy skills among its pupils; commends the school's deputy head teacher, Lois Lurinsky, and all involved in encouraging the students to participate in this prestigious event; notes that Hillhead Primary is one of several schools from across Scotland that are participating in the 2025 competition; welcomes the ongoing support from Creative Scotland, Scottish Book Trust, Dyslexia Scotland, Scottish Poetry Library, Stirling Council and ConFAB for this initiative; recognises the value of the workshops led by renowned professional writers and performers in preparing these young people for the event, and believes that this competition continues to provide a vital platform for young people across Scotland to express themselves, build confidence and engage with literature in a creative and inclusive environment.
