New Electric Bus Fleet for Aberdeen

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the introduction of a new fleet of 36 electric buses to Aberdeen; understands that First Bus has invested £12.7 million to improve the sustainability of Aberdeen’s public transport infrastructure, with 24 new state-of-the-art electric WrightBus double decker buses, and 12 repower buses, which were traditional fossil-fuelled buses that have since been converted to electric; further understands that the investment from First Bus forms part of a wider commitment to invest £100 million across the UK to achieve a fully zero-emission fleet by 2035; notes that the new electric buses are already in service, connecting Robert Gordon University to the rest of the city, and that they have been welcomed by students; believes that the initiative is expected to improve air quality and reduce carbon emissions, which will bolster Aberdeen’s credentials as it works to establish itself as the global net zero capital, and commends First Bus and its partners for their leadership in sustainable transport and for contributing to Aberdeen’s climate goals.
