Lodged by Karen Adam (Scottish National Party) Standard Motion 14 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament expresses concern over Aberdeenshire Council’s reported plans to remove historic artefacts from Banff Museum, including Banff’s Mercat Cross, and relocate them outside of historic Banffshire; believes in the fundamental principle that historical artefacts should be displayed in their rightful historic home or as close to it as possible; recognises that Banff is the historic heart of Banffshire, with a long and rich history as a Royal Burgh, and calls on Aberdeenshire Council to respect and preserve this heritage; acknowledges the efforts of the Banff Preservation and Heritage Society in campaigning to keep Banff’s history in Banff, and wishes it success in its ongoing efforts to protect the town’s cultural and historical identity.
