Justice for Balochistan

That the Parliament expresses its deep concern for the region of Balochistan in response to reports of ongoing human rights violations against the Baloch people; recognises that Balochistan is a region in South Asia that spans parts of Iran and Afghanistan, with the largest section in south west Pakistan; believes that the Baloch people face political and economic marginalisation, with little control over their region’s vast natural resources and minimal representation in national decision-making, while also reportedly experiencing widespread human rights abuses, including enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings and violent suppression of peaceful activism; notes reports that the most recent violent incident was a terrorist attack on a train in Balochistan, which resulted in many casualties; considers that these incidents are part of a broader pattern of violence in Balochistan, in light of reports that, in February 2024, at least 30 people were killed in two blasts near election candidates' offices, with the first attack in Pishin district killing 18 people, and the second in Qilla Saifullah killing 12 people; believes that these events highlight the ongoing security challenges in Balochistan, with, it understands, militant groups targeting both security forces and civilians in their pursuit of political objectives, and urges the UK Government to stand with the people of Balochistan in support of their rights.
