Old Strips with New Goals: Launch of Glasgow’s Kitback Campaign
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Street Soccer Scotland on the launch of its Kitback campaign, which is a Glasgow-born initiative calling on football fans to donate old kits in support of those in need; understands that Kitback invites people to turn unused football tops into vital support, with each shirt either reused by Street Soccer players or sold to raise funds for what it sees as the charity’s life-changing work; acknowledges the campaign’s roots in Glasgow’s rich footballing culture, with its founder, David Duke from Govan, sharing his belief that every kit has a story and a second life, whether it’s from Partick Thistle, Pollok, Rangers, Celtic or beyond; believes that Kitback not only reduces waste and keeps football kits out of landfill, but also builds hope and connection for people experiencing hardship, all through the power of Scotland’s national game, and acknowledges that Street Soccer Scotland, founded by David Duke following his own experience of homelessness, now runs over 60 weekly projects and has helped more than 25,000 people across the country.
