Impact of Traveller Encampments and Local Authority Responses
The motion
That the Parliament notes the reported impact on local residents of the recent illegal traveller encampment on the grassland by Drumbrae leisure centre; believes that legislative changes in England may have caused an increase of traveller encampments in Scotland, and congratulates Scottish local authorities that are doing more to accommodate increased traveller activity through the introduction of transit halting sites in appropriate locations, and notes their reported efforts to involve local communities in designing long-term solutions commensurate with the protections afforded to Gypsy Travellers under the terms of the Equality Act 2010.
