Welcoming the Election of Cardinal Robert Prevost as Pope Leo XIV

That the Parliament welcomes and congratulates His Holiness Pope Leo XIV; considers that this is a historic time for Catholics in Scotland with them having the first American-born Pope; recognises that he also holds Peruvian citizenship; further recognises the contribution of his predecessor, His Holiness Pope Francis, and his efforts in promoting social justice and peace during his lifetime, and looks forward to Pope Leo XIV’s stewardship of Catholics around the world.
