Congratulations to the University of Aberdeen and NHS Grampian

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the University of Aberdeen and NHS Grampian for being involved in a trial that has successfully identified a new treatment combination to improve rates of remission in cancer patients; notes that the PRIME-RT trial, conducted among patients with advanced rectal cancer, found that the addition of immunotherapy treatment alongside extensive radiotherapy led to better rates of remission, observing rates of 52%, exceeding pre-trial expectations of 30%; understands that the colorectal cancer team at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, led by Dr Leslie Samuel, Honorary Clinical Chair in Oncology at the University of Aberdeen and Consultant Oncologist for NHS Grampian, collaborated in the UK-wide study; believes that the results of this study will be instrumental in helping people with rectal cancer to avoid radical, life-altering surgery, and hopes that it can help to reduce the mortality rates of rectal cancer, which claims an estimated 410 lives in Scotland every year.
